I had two major goals this year, in addition to all the other slightly less major ones on the side, namely to step up on dancing and kite-boarding; to work on building the basics that will let me take those two to the next level next year.
Dance was not so much learning tons of new moves this time but more about understanding counting and rhythm: the counting may be simple in theory, just 1-2-3-4 and the N count in between but try to apply that to a brain and body that has not been trained or tuned to it since early on and you get prolonged flashes of total brain meltdowns, especially when you have to keep up with some of the best and most flexible brains and bodies in the world…
Insisting on taking drum and dance lessons together was what helped me make those personal breakthroughs on understanding rhythm better and deeper and I am grateful to both my drum and dance teachers for all the sweat and tears that process put me through…lol
Kiteboarding was about being able to get up and be able to control the kite and gliding on the water. It was not until two months ago I was able to achieve that but now I feel great about it and I look forward to the jumps and tricks sometime later next year.
This video is not really just about dance and kite-boarding though. For me, it was juggling between total exhaustion while trying to keep it fun at all levels of life: work, hobbies, interests, private life etc…at times I did bite more than I could chew but I am grateful for the lessons I learned and look forward to an even more fun and exciting next year.
If I took one thing this year to heart, that was to not forget to enjoy myself in the process and to keep a healthy distance from a never-ending sense of perfectionism and basically to chill…even if it does not work out well during the first try, or the second or third one that is ok! It will work down the track if I just keep walking, keep dancing, keep surfing and if I just let the object of all those and all the other activities I do be enjoying the process itself 🙂
I love recording backstage. They make great memories and sometimes they can be as interesting as the main stage. Why choose between back and front when they are all part of the same main course, right?? Why separate mind and body when they are both unique reflections of the one and eternally youthful human spirit?? I do not how others think or feel on this one, but that is the way I have been experiencing it anyway and it has worked for me.
Last but not least, I learned that building trust and making and keeping friendships is absolutely paramount. To cherish the good old friendships and to look forward to deepening the new ones is key. The key to a healthy, long, interesting and rewarding every-day life 🙂
My God, what a year it has been…and what a day yesterday. Those emotions inside have not subsided yet and how could it be otherwise…at least they were of help spending these last few hours editing the videos with smiles of gratefulness all over my face…this final edit is all about those many small and big imperfections during practice-time dealt with laughter and humor and unyielding perseverance.
Love and Peace
